Discover Bali
Temples on sea cliffs, active volcanoes, a thousand years of rice terraces and a living Hindu culture. The island, place by place.
Welcome to Bali
An island that is still a world of its own
Bali is a small island, about 150 kilometers from east to west, yet it holds two active volcanoes, crater lakes, rainforest, coral reefs and more temples than anyone has managed to count. It is the only island in the world's largest Muslim-majority country where Hinduism is the faith of most people, and that faith is not a museum piece. It is the offering on the shop step every morning, the gamelan rehearsing in the village hall at night, the road closed for a procession.
This guide is about understanding the island, not just ticking it off. Every temple, beach, waterfall and village here comes with its story, the practical details that matter and a map to find it. Start anywhere.
